Seriously?

Life can be difficult sometimes. Like when you are in a foreign country and have no money and no one will help you. I went to 4 different banks today, trying to figure out how to remedy my bank situation. People were not altogether that helpful. One lady actually scowled at me. Granted, my spanish isn't really strong and I was talking about banking issues, not exactly vocabulary I'm familiar with, so she was probably frustrated with me, but I was doing my best. 5 different bank chicas told me there was nothing they could do. I was ready to cry.

Then it dawned on me.

Chicos.

Spanish men like young, american women so much better than spanish women. Shocking. I went to a Argentinean bank and found a 25 year old guy who spoke un poquito de ingles. My new friend Ivan opened a student checking account for me despite the fact that I am not a student and I will not have any money to put in it for a few days, is even ordering a bank card for me and is helping me transfer money. Te amo Ivan.

I also met another language tutor today. She is the language tutor for the family of my host mom's sister. They live across the street. Everyone calls her "la otra Americana," which means the other American girl. They keep saying "Llama a la otra Americana!"

La otra Americana is Australian. Go figure.

Anyway, tomorrow, assuming Ivan and I get this little dinero situation worked out, tomorrow I am going to try to get a cell phone and an alarm clock. Cell phone for obvious reasons. Alarm clock because people in Spain get their days started very early and then everything closes at 230 in the afternoon. Years of experience tells me that there is no way I will wake up at 7 am without an alarm clock. Therefore, without one, I will be eating breakfast around the time stores close and people go home for the day and I will miss Spain entirely.

So, its been a bit of a rocky start, and until I get the funding situation worked out, my activity level is low, but things seem to be picking up. Hopefully my next post will be about something other than banking. Lo siento.

LOVE it... amazing. seriously.

although I didn't appreciate the fact that when I was in Spain people paid attention to blondes more (and they thought blondes were people with light brown hair so I can IMAGINE how they treat you) I'm glad it is working out.

And if you ever have trouble with Spanish men, Italian men are even more willing to help.
